Thanks for this Tony. I am wondering if you can help me work through Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 11:28-30 when he says his burden is light and his yoke is easy. I often think about the cost of discipleship (as Jesus himself modelled and taught) and return to that passage and wonder in what he may have been saying.
I'll do what I can, of course. =) As I've reviewed the texts involved, I realize that a lot of people - like you and me - may have asked the same question. So, rather than jot down a couple of quick thoughts, I want to take a little time and use your question for next week's newsletter. I hope you don't mind waiting a few days. 🤟 In the meantime, let me know if there's more I can do for you.
I suspect some will say Jesus was primarily referring to the weight of the law being lifted and I can appreciate that, but it also doesn’t fully satisfy me. I have never thought of denying oneself, taking up the cross daily, and following Jesus was meant to be light or easy as Jesus refers to in Matthew 28.
I am a patient man. I look forward to your thoughts.
