Hi Tony. I too pray along with the father: I do believe, help me in my unbelief. I am so glad we follow a faith grounded in evidence.
A little poem I wrote after reading the account in Mark:
The Prayer of an Honest Father
“I do believe, “ he said, “Help me in my unbelief”
A father’s plaintive plea, as he seeks relief
For a son whose ailment puts his life in danger
His desperation such, the dad sought out a stranger
In those forlorn, heartfelt words, I hope and comfort find,
For his "too little" trust, my unsteady faith defines.
It wasn’t massive certainty to which the Lord responded,
But to a broken father’s cry, with love that corresponded.
That father’s sincere boldness lifts hope that when I pray,
Acknowledging my weaknesses, I won’t scare God away,
He knows I’m far from perfect, and my faith is incomplete,
But when I trust he’ll hear me, he’ll unbelief defeat.
Well done, Timothy! 😎
